What are Building Automation Systems?

Building Automation Systems (BAS) automatically centralize control of a building’s HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), lighting, access control, security systems, and other interrelated systems. The benefits of building automation systems include: improved comfort, efficient operation, reduced energy consumption and operating costs, increased security, remote access/control/operation, and improved life cycle of equipment and utilities.

Connected devices are part of building operations to save energy, optimize lighting, or provide physical access. These devices can be compromised and become attack vectors. Ordr secures devices such as BACnet controllers and IP cameras, ensuring that they do not become initial attack targets for lateral movement.

The Ordr Flow Genome and Layer 2 and Layer 3 Constellation View provide easy visualization of internal and external communications in order to profile the behavior for these devices. In addition, Ordr creates dynamic policies that can be enforced on firewalls, network access controls (NACs), switches, and wireless LAN controllers to only allow “known, sanctioned communications.”
