What is a CMDB?

An organization uses a configuration management database (CMDB) to store information about hardware and software assets and the relationships among those assets. These may include information systems, upstream sources or dependencies of assets, and the downstream targets of assets.

Information technology (IT) and healthcare technology management (HTM) teams need to have a clear and accurate asset inventory of the devices at their disposal. This visibility should be provided in real-time for any connected device, and integrating Ordr with a CMDB solution can be used to automatically trigger the appropriate workflow. IT and HTM teams can ensure their asset inventory is accurate and when new devices are identified they are notified, or they are able to run reports on devices that haven’t connected within their set parameter of time (ie. a week, a month, etc.).

Inventory management is continuous and incorporating real-time device context into a CMDB is paramount.
