This Veterans Day, I want to honor the men and women who have dedicated themselves to safeguarding our freedom and protecting our nation across all domains — not only on land, in the air, and at sea but also in the expanding cyber realm.

One of the virtues I most admire about our armed forces and veterans is their sense of unity and duty, extending even to the smallest details. I’m reminded of the classic proverb: “For want of a nail, the shoe was lost; for want of a shoe, the horse was lost; for want of a horse, a war was lost.” This reminder of the far-reaching effects of seemingly minor oversights applies not only to the physical defense of our nation but is equally relevant to cyber defenses.

Cybersecurity: A New Frontier in National Defense

In the cyber world a single vulnerability can create a ripple effect, compromising critical infrastructure and threatening lives and livelihoods. At Ordr, we recognize the importance of securing even the smallest details to protect these vital spaces, not only for individual patients but for the security of our nation. Our veterans have put their lives on the line to defend our country, and today, we carry on that legacy by fighting to secure our national infrastructure from those who would seek harm.

Cyber threats to healthcare systems and American enterprises put our communities, values, and way of life at risk. Ordr is committed to identifying and mitigating these threats before they reach our “digital border,” stopping damage before it can start.

Preventing Intrusions by Securing Every Device

The best defense against cyber intrusions is to deny hackers the foothold they seek. Often, outdated equipment — devices like CT scanners or IoT systems that are connected without strict controls — becomes an open door for attackers. Vulnerabilities in devices such as security cameras, building management systems, and network printers are prime targets for intrusions. Hackers see these entry points as gold mines, giving them access to critical hospital systems.

We continuously monitor every connected device within hospitals, retail environments, airports, manufacturing plants, educational institutions, and banks. This monitoring includes understanding device attributes, tracking patch levels, and monitoring real-time behaviors and data flows. For example, Ordr assesses external traffic from medical devices, alerting security teams to suspicious connection attempts. By quickly identifying traffic to low-reputation sites we help prevent attackers from gathering the intelligence needed to launch damaging ransomware attacks.

A Community of Service: Partnering with Veterans for Greater Security

We’re fortunate to work with dedicated veterans at Ordr who bring unparalleled focus and discipline to our mission. Our Chief Healthcare Officer, Wes Wright, an Air Force veteran with years of service in military hospitals, exemplifies this mission-driven approach. Additionally, we are honored to partner with Advanced Cybersecurity Experts (ACE), a veteran-led organization training veterans and military spouses in cybersecurity. Together, we are creating meaningful opportunities for veterans and their families while strengthening our cybersecurity defenses for critical environments.

Standing Firm for National Security

Ordr is committed to defending every inch of our customer environments — whether patient care or inventory management — with vigilance and resilience. We know that an attack on one hospital is an attack on all of us, and we will not let these threats undermine the trust that our veterans and citizens place in our healthcare systems.

In my years working with the world’s leading healthcare institutions, I have often encountered leaders with military backgrounds. Their tenacity, resilience, and focus are testaments to their disciplined service to the nation. Addressing challenges and combating threats in cybersecurity demands the same commitment and strength—qualities that veterans bring to the forefront.

On this Veterans Day, Ordr proudly stands with our veterans and pledges to continue the fight to protect our nation’s most critical infrastructure.

Happy Veterans Day. Together, we stand firm.
